The Global Rock Challenge
What the Hell is that? I hear you ask. Well, I'll tell you if you like :-) The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge began in Sydney, Australia in 1979 as a local competition between schools to promote a healthy lifestyle for youths without drugs, alcohol or smoking. In 1996 the competition, know simply as Rock Challenge, was introduced to the UK. Now around 40,000 students from over 200 schools up and down the country, from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and even a team from France, compete every year in this spectacular event. The competition has become truly global with schools from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France, America and Germany now involved.
The idea is that each school sets up a team of around a hundred students to put together an 8 minute stage production telling a story, any kind you like, to an original soundtrack of contemporary music, using dance, some drama (i.e. mime), set, costume, make-up, lighting and props. And there you go! :-)

This page is dedicated to my personal Rocka experience, particularly with my own schools. Just click on each year to find out what happened!
