Timeline and Biographies
We all know Buffy Summers is the Chosen one of this generation...well, us Buff buffs at any rate :-) But what about the girls that came before her? I've got a real thing about past slayers; for one they're very cool :-), but also, it's an interesting way of looking at events in history around the world using just one focal point. Anyway - this timeline is an extension of the Slayer Chronology found in the Buffyverse artwork section of this site. It is a comprehensive list of all known slayers (known to me at any rate!) from all sorts of places - from the TV show to comic books and all in between. I would like to thank Patrick and Amber for their help in the completion of this page. I would also like to credit the timeline in SFX's Special Edition on Buffy (my security blanket!) - talk about painstaking research from Dave Golder and Holly Bontoft :-) If you have anything you feel could be added please give me a shout at firecracker2000@ntlworld.com and I'll put it to consideration :-) A * indicates improvised details based on available information.

She learnt a rather painful lesson illustrating that the lines between good and evil are not always as clear as you would hope them to be. |
|
|
Name: Samantha Watcher: Hayward H. Muzzlewit Country of Origin: London, England Slayer Tenure: 1812 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 2, "The Ghosts of Slayers Past" by Scott Allie Art Credit: Helen J Haslam - Samantha's watcher was Charlton Muzzlewit's father, who treated her rather appallingly because she was a lower class, and felt it was fine to give her the odd smack around (even though she could've kicked his arse if she'd had the common sense to do so). She was only the Slayer for ten months, but her tenure didn't go in vain, as Charlton was to get an important visit from his father some decades later... |
![]() |
Name: Elizabeth/Edward Weston Watcher: Unknown Country of Origin: Summerset, England Slayer Tenure: 1813 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Comic), "Presumption" by Jane Espenson; Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 2, "The Ghosts of Slayers Past" by Scott Allie Art Credit: "Presumption", P Craig Russell - One of the many slayers throughout history forced to dress as a man in order to carry out her duties :-) |

|
*** |
Name: Catherine Hogarth Watcher: Charlton Muzzlewit Country of Origin: London, England Slayer Tenure: 1843 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 2, "The Ghosts of Slayers Past" by Scott Allie - Not exactly the slayer a watcher dreams about; a common as muck poor-house girl with about as much wits about her as a plank of wood. But then Catherine's watcher was paid a visit from several rather unorthodox slayers and he had a sudden change of heart :-) |
|
*** |
Name: Margaret 'Maggie' Madden Watcher: Sean Connelly Country of Origin: Dublin, Ireland Slayer Tenure: 1852 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 3, "Ch'ing Shih" by Mel Odom - Maggie's watcher Connelly was apparently in love with her, but unlike others had the good sense not to get romantically involved. He still felt her death keenly though, and talked of her often with his new slayer, Xiaoqin. |
|
*** |
Name: Xiaoqin Watcher: Sean Connelly Country of Origin: Shanghai, China Slayer Tenure: 1856 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 3, "Ch'ing Shih" by Mel Odom - A fantastic story of a thief, Xiaoqin, once again posing to be a man to survive in life, who had heard the stories of vampires (Ch'ing Shih) but not believed them until her Irish watcher, Sean Connelly, convinced her. Connelly was also watcher to Margaret Madden, and, quite in love with her, took years to get over her death. Get over it he did though, and was brave enough to track down Xiaoqin and take her on as the Slayer. Probably the best Slayer/Watcher pairing since Buffy and Giles themselves :-) |
|
*** |
Name: Pauline Francis Barnard aka Frankie Massey Watcher: Reed, turned and then staked by Frankie. The council sent a new watcher, Edward Landers, who was rejected by Frankie's commander, Major-General William Tecumseh Sherman. Sherman then acted as the slayer's watcher. |
*** |
Name: Catherine Callan Watcher: Thomas Spelling Country of Origin: Ulster, Ireland Slayer Tenure: 1876 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 4, "Alone" by Scott Allie - Catherine did not have a good relationship with her watcher/supposed husband, as she was Irish and the Council was very much not. However, their relationship was better than the one she had with her abusive father, as proved when she survived her Cruciamentum on her home farm. |
|

It went awry though when the vampire Blasko interfered, killing Richmond, the other council members and the half-starved, not so bright vamp that Millie was due to face. He himself chased her through the fun house, but was out-smarted by the slayer, even in her weaken condition. |
|
*** |
Name: Dorothy "Dot" Singer Watcher: Reginald V. Hill, who left his charge briefly to fight in the Great War, an act many saw as extremely brave and noble, but others saw as irresponsible glory hunting. Country of Origin: Chicago, Illinois, USA Slayer Tenure: 1919 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 4, "Survivors" by Kristine Kathryn Rusch - After the war, Reginald was never really himself, and on the day of Dot's Cruciamentum he had another terrible panic attack. Anyway, she got herself involved in a time-paradox with Buffy Summers...and you know those always end in tears :-) |
![]() |
Name: Anni Sonnenblume Watcher: Unknown, but in a wheelchair and seemed to keep out of the Nazi problems Country of Origin: Germany Slayer Tenure: 1938 Source: Tales of the Slayers (Comic), "Sonnenblume" by Rebecca Rand Kirshner; BtVS Comic, "The Death of Buffy" by Tom Fassbender and Jim Pascoe. Nikki had a pretty reasonable stint as the Chosen One (at least five years), but met her end at the hands of the vampire Spike, who took her coat as a trophy and has never really taken it off since. She was one of very few slayers to have children; her only child Robin went on to become the final principle of Sunnydale High, and helped Buffy Summers, Faith, the Potentials and others to defeat the First and destroy the town in the process...oops. He was also romantically involved with Faith. |

Slayer Tenure: 1993-96 Source: "The Book Of Fours" by Nancy Holder; Tales of the Slayers (Novel), Vol. 3, "The Code of the Samurai" by Nancy Holder Art Credit: "The Book Of Fours", Cliff Nielsen - A confused girl; her mother was a famous actress from the Philippians , her father a US army officer. She fell in love with her rather dashing watcher, ran into a couple of infamous English vamps, bought a dog, and was then hacked to death trying to protect her own home. Nice. She was then recruited by the Spirit Guide Lucy Hanover in 1999 to be reincarnated in order to stop the Gatherer once and for all. |

Name: Buffy Anne Summers Watcher: Originally Merrick Jamison-Smythe, who was killed by the vampire Lothos. Then Rupert Giles, who was briefly fired and replaced by Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, but Giles soon resumed his duties after Wesley's exit. Country of Origin: California, USA Slayer Tenure: 1996- Source: BtVS, the movie; BtVS, TV Show, Buffy Mag, etc... Art Credit: Buffy Mag, "The Death of Buffy", Cliff Richards - One of the most incredible Slayers ever to have lived. A cheerleader turned slayer, she's died twice, broken all the rules (quite literally) and saved the world a lot. She is truly remarkable and that's why we love her :-) |

Name: Kendra Watcher: Mr Zabuto Country of Origin: Jamaica Slayer Tenure: 1997-98 Source: BtVS, TV Show, Season Two; "The Book Of Fours" by Nancy Holder; Buffy Mag, "Note From The Underground", by Scott Lobdell and Fabian Nicieza, etc... Art Credit: Tales of the Slayers website( http://www.geocities.com/tales_slayer/ ) - A rather uptight slayer, called after Buffy died briefly, meaning there were now two slayers active. Killed by the English vampire Drusilla after Buffy was led into a diversion by Angelus, then resurrected once more along with India Cohen to help stop the Gatherer in 1999 before being finally laid to rest. |

Name: Faith Watcher: Unknown, died at the hands of the demon Kakistos, which traumatised the already unstable slayer. She fell under the care briefly of Rupert Giles with Buffy Summers, was then sent the evil Gwendolyn Post, who was killed by her and Buffy, then Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, who truly screwed her up. Currently without a watcher. Country of Origin: Boston, USA Slayer Tenure: 1998- Source: BtVS, TV Show, Seasons Three, Four and Seven; Angel, Seasons One, Two and Four; Buffy Mag, "Note From The Underground", by Scott Lobdell and Fabian Nicieza, etc... Art Credit: Buffy Mag, "Note From The Underground", Cliff Richards - Activated after Kendra's death, therefore meaning there were still two slayers at once. Faith however went a bit AWOL, joined a couple of wrong sides, landed herself in a coma, and looked annoyingly excellent in head to toe leather. She eventually saw the light, and helped save the world, balancing the Karma a bit :-) She has an affinity for Angel as he 'saved her' from herself and was the only one to never give up on her. She is probably my absolute favourite slayer. |

Name: Scythe activated slayers Watcher: Mostly dead, killed by the Bringers, the minions of the First. Country of Origin: Worldwide Slayer Tenure: 2003 Source: BtVS, TV Show, Season Seven ("Chosen") - In 2003, Buffy Summers (with Faith's and the Scooby Gang's help) broke all the rules, as afore mentioned, and made it so that all Potential Slayers - would-be slayers - would be slayers, thus turning the tables and saving the world from the First. Excellent, excellent...! :-) |

Name: Melaka Fray Watcher: Unknown, went crazy and set himself on fire to prove Mel's calling to her...nice. The demon Urkonn acted as her watcher for a time, but his intentions weren't exactly honourable. Country of Origin: Versi, Haddyn Slayer Tenure: C2600* Source: Joss Whedon's Fray; Tales of the Slayers (Comic), "Tales" by Joss Whedon Art Credit: Fray No. 3, Karl Moline - In the future, all magical elements will be sucked out of this world, defeated by the Slayer of the time. Therefore, with no more vampires, no more girls are called. Until...Melaka Fray has to learn what a vampire is, then she can go ahead and save the world from them :-) Oh, and she's dead cool doing it too! |
